Night of Power

The message of Muhammad was not accepted overnight. A few at first began to believe what he conveyed regarding the religion of Islam. Gradually as he and his followers began to have success more adherents came into Islam. Eventually it was young and old, male and female who became believers. After some years it was understood that those who had made the greatest sacrifices and had achieved notable good works would in eternity be rewarded by God. Some of the old people recently converted to Islam came to the Prophet and asked ‘Is it true we will be rewarded only by the works we contribute for God.’ Muhammad said you have heard correctly. One of them replied we are old and have contributed little and we have little time left so will have little chance to make much difference and little to look forward to after death.’ Muhammad said do not come to despair so quickly. Persist , but return to me in a certain number of days. With that the group departed. Some days passed and it turned out that Muhammad caught sight of them and said, ‘I have received a message to convey to you.’ The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their past sins forgiven,” it has been revealed to me that “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months”. Not long after that it was recognized that a thousand months is a full and long life. Some of the old among them departed and could be seen tears on their cheeks with the mercy of Allah filling their hearts, knowing that they had received eternal rewards and that a message from Allah had came for them. Therefore Muhammad said, “Seek it in the last ten days of Ramadan, on the odd numbered nights.”
